installing Ubuntu 9.04 server (sendmail package ?) [FIXED]

New postby hortimech » Sat Nov 14, 2009 8:06 pm

I tried to install on Ubuntu by downloading the setup-ubuntu file, when I ran this I got an incomplete setup, to be precise no Postfix!

I reinstalled Ubuntu and installed the files manually, a group at a time to see if I could find the culprit, and I did. It would seem that if you install milter-greylist on Ubuntu it removes Postfix and installs Sendmail.
I installed all the other required files and then added the Artica deb, I could then log into the management webpage. The Mysql password was not set correctly (I set the password when mysql-server was installed) so I do not know if anything did not get installed correctly.

I could probably work out how to install without milter-greylist if you had created setup-ubuntu as a bash script, but for some reason you compiled it to a binary. So could you please recompile it without milter-greylist and I will try again.

Thanks

Thanks for a very swift response, I have tried again with the new file and this time it worked. Sendmail still gets installed by something but it swiftly gets removed again. I am now trying to understand how it all works but I am now having another slight problem, if Applications setup center is to be believed, There is virtually no software installed, even though it is.
I have upgraded some of the software through the center and whilst it shows to the right whilst installing, it never shows as installed.
as an aside, after updating Samba to 3.4.2 through the Applications setup center, Samba would not start, a quick Google revealed the answer 'ln -s /usr/lib/libtalloc.so.1.3.0 /usr/lib/libtalloc.so.1'
