Define Windows clients policies trough your PDC with poledit

This feature is available with artica version 1.3.091900.

It support only windows 2000/XP workstations connected to Artica server has defined has PDC (Primary Domain Controler) behavior.

That means Windows Vista and Windows Seven are not using this method to apply policies.
I'm waiting Samba4 in order to provide the right Administration feature (see current developpement plans) for these new Windows versions - especially Seven -

It allow you to define specific policies for computer that run a session linked to the Samba domain.

Download the Poledit tool on your  windows XP/2000 computer (not all computers just yours).

Install/using the Poledit package.

On your windows computer, extract the content of the Poledit.editor.zip file.

Open the directory according the Windows operating system of your Workstations (ADM for W2K for Windows 2000 or ADM for XP for windows XP) 

Copy the file common.adm to the windows folder :

C:\WINNT\INF\COMMON.ADM OR C:\WINDOWS\INF\COMMON.ADM 

Copy the file winnt.adm to the windows folder :

C:\WINNT\INF\WINNT.ADM OR C:\WINDOWS\INF\WINNT.ADM 

Open the folder Poledit_w2k-nt and exectue the POLEDIT.EXE tool

open the poledit-v 5.0.2195.2546-US directory to get the 5.x version on U.S language.

 On the poledit application go into Options and Policy template menu

Open the appropriate template you want to use.

Create a new policy by clicking on File\New Policy menu

In one policy your can create many rules for groups, users or computers, create the restricted rules you want to apply in your network.

Save your Policiy to a .pol file.

 

Deploy the policy with Artica

 

On the Files Sharing section, click on the XP/2000 Policies icon.

 

  •  Select the .pol policy file created with poledit.
  • Click on "Upload File"
  • On the windows side, restart the windows session to see your applied settings.
