Print PDF

This feature is available with artica version 1.4.091020

If you are under this release you need to upgrade your Artica version.
If this version is not released use the How to upgrade Artica to a nightly build ?

This feature allow you to create a cluster system.

It using GlusterFS. GlusterFS does not need to format a specific partition to perform a cluster system. Gluster is a simple, scalable, and robust replication filesystem.

With GlusterFS you can choose which directory you want  to replicate between servers.

You need to choose one server that will be used a a master and slaves that perform replication between servers.

With this configuration, if an user save a file in a clustered directory on a slave server, the file will be replicated in all servers in the cluster area.

For users there no need to save files only to the master, there is no really definition for them.

So to get a cluster running you need at least 2 servers...

Depends of your money you can use unlimited servers :=)

The best way is to install 2 Artica servers with Samba installed in order to create a shared file system cluster environment

After installing Artica on your servers, you need to active the cluster aware by installing GlusterFS on each server.

Install the Cluster Aware system.

  • Click on SOFTWARES INSTALL on the top menu
  • Choose the File Sharing tab
  • Click on Install or Upgrade under the Gluster Storage Platform row

You can perform the same operation by using artica-make :

/usr/share/artica-postfix/bin/artica-make APP_GLUSTER

Perform this step on each server you wants in the cluster organization.

Create your cluster environment.

  • Open the Artica console on the server you want to be the master cluster.
  • On the left menu, choose Files Sharing/Main parameters.
  • Click on Gluster Storage Platform tab.
  • Click on Add a new cluster icon.
  • Give the IP address and the Artica port used for the server that will be the slave.

After submited the Add button, you master cluster will try to notify the slave that a new Master is now available.

The circle started to be yellow and turn to green after several seconds if the slave server has successfully accepted the request from the master.

If some communications has been set an icon will be displayed that allows you to view events of the communications.

Repeat this step for each slave you want to add in the cluster environment

Add cluster directories.

This step is very easy, now you just need to specify which folders on the master server you want to add in the cluster environment.

  • Select the explorer link on the top menu.
  • Navigate into your file system and choose the desired directory.
  • On the left toolbar choose click on the icon that display 2 servers.

After clicking on it, Icon will be changed in order to allow to disconnect the folder from the cluster environment.

Verify if replications or folders has been accepted from slaves.

  • Open the Artica web console on a slave server
  • On the left menu, choose Files Sharing/Main parameters.
  • Click on Gluster Storage Platform tab.

Take a look on the second table, you must see folders selected on the master.

If the circle is green that means the slave have accepted the request and the directory is now replicated in real-time from the master.

Note: You can create a master slave and a slave can be a master too for other cluster
