Install OCS Inventory

This feature is available with artica version 1.4.083012

If you are under this release you need to upgrade your Artica version.
If this version is not released use the How to upgrade Artica to a nightly build ?

OCS Inventory is a software using Network agents and a server in order to provide workstations Administration capabilities.

OCS Inventory NG includes package deployment feature on client computers.

From the central management server, you can upload packages which will be downloaded through HTTP/HTTPS and launched by agent on client computer.

It provides

  • Relevant inventory information.
  • Powerful deployment system allowing to distribute software installation or scripts on computers without overloading the network.
  • Web Administration Console: Artica database is merged with OCS Database, both database are combined into a single Interface.
  • Multiple operating systems support, including Microsoft Windows, Linux, *BSD, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, HP-UX, MacOS X.
  • Lightweight bandwith usage: 5 KB for a full Windows inventory.
  • High performance: about 1 000 000 of computers inventoried per day using a server bi-Xeon 3 GHz and 4 GB R

Install OCS server trough Artica.

Connect to Artica console

  • Click on SOFTWARES INSTALL the top menu
  • Select System Softwares in the Application set center tab.

 

Drop-down in order to find OCS Inventory row and click on Install or Upgrade

 

First Parameters - generate certificate / Web services

  • When installed, go to System/Main parameters
  • Click on Services & Applications tab
  • Select OCS Inventory icon.

 

Just after installation you can see that the OCS Web SSL download service is turned OFF.
This service is used to provide remote deployment trough OCS Agents.

It requires a certificate and a name server to run.

  • Click on certificate tab
  • Choose if you want to create a slef-signed certificate or use an external certificate provided by cacert.org.
  • Define the server name of the web service, the domain and the email address that will be added to the certificate.
  • Click on generate new certificate in order to make the OCS Web SSL download service up.

 

  • Click on Web server / Interface.
  • Define the server name used for the HTTP service
  • Change port use for HTTP and HTTPS service.

 

 

After this operation, services must be turned on.
